Hyperbolic Crochet Workshop

With Rebecca George

Sunday 19 April, Glen Eira City Council Gallery – 2-4pm

There is a connection between crochet, mathematics and shapes found in nature. In this workshop you will learn the mathematics behind the growth of crochet stitches in the round to make any shape. With a hook and a single loop of thread, crochet is an ideal medium to enable three-dimensional drawing in air. Flowers, leaves, coral and jellyfish tentacles have negative curvature and follow hyperbolic geometry. You will come away with the skills you need to make any sculptural shape from amigurumi (soft toys) to artwork, without the need to follow a pattern.

Materials will be supplied, but please feel free to bring your own hook and yarn to work with.

Suitable for all crochet skill levels, from complete beginner to experienced.
